Windsor police have set the record straight regarded a post circulating on social media.
Investigators say the incident didn't happen, and there is no evidence to suggest it did.
It was not clear when the information was posted, but it discussed what was believed to be an assault that took place in the middle of the night near Windsor Regional Hospital's Met Campus.
The post reported that the victim's husband fought off the attacker and called the police, and officers happened to be nearby, stopping a vehicle with three men waiting inside it and two girls tied up in the trunk.
Police reported on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday that there had been no report phoned into them that matched the description.
"We would like to reassure the community that these reports are unfounded and believed to be a hoax," read the tweet.
Police went on to say that the notice was not meant to discourage people from contacting them. They have urged anyone who witnesses unusual activity or feels unsafe to call them directly.
