LaSalle musician plays Encore for a $100K prize

Putting an extra loonie down on a lottery ticket has paid off for a LaSalle man.

John Stark, a regular lottery player, paid the extra dollar to activate the Encore feature on a Lotto 6/49 ticket for the September 27 draw. He won the second prize by matching the last six digits in a row out of seven for $100,000.

Stark picked up his prize cheque at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.

“I asked my niece to check my ticket," said Stark. "When she told me I won $100,000, my mind was blown. We were both shocked and in a daze."

Stark, a musician, plans to pay off some bills, invest, and buy champagne for a family celebration.

The winning ticket was purchased at Mac's on Malden Road in LaSalle, according to the OLG.

Encore is activated on most of the OLG's draw games by paying another dollar. Prizes on Encore range from $2 to $1-million.
