Stellantis ratification vote set for Saturday

Unionized workers at the Windsor Assembly Plant will vote on a tentative agreement this weekend.

Unifor Local 444 spokesman Jeremy Glajch confirmed registration for the vote at Caesars Windsor will start at 8 a.m. on Saturday. Members will find out the details specific to Stellantis before casting their ballots.

The deal came after a brief seven-hour strike at Stellantis facilities in Ontario and Alberta.

In addition to a $10,000 signing bonus for full-time workers, those on the assembly line can expect an almost 20 per cent wage increase over the life of the three-year agreement.

Skilled trades workers will see their wages increase by 25 per cent.

The agreement also cuts how long it takes for new workers to reach the top tier from eight years to four.

"There were many challenges in this round of bargaining," said National President Lana Payne. "Stellantis came to the table aggressively, with demands to outsource work and other concessions."

For those at the Windsor Assembly Plant, Payne said the agreement includes pension improvements, best practices, work practices and special measures.

The union also bargained for future workers at the NextStar Battery Plant in Windsor.

"We made our position and objectives around this plant crystal clear," said Payne. "These will be good unionized jobs that pay autoworker wages, and they will be Unifor members."

The bargaining committee recommends ratification.

"This is the best one-time agreement that we've ever seen," said the Chair of the Master Bargaining Committee for the Windsor Assembly Plant, James Stewart.

While voting is on Saturday for those members working at the Windsor Assembly Plant, the results are not expected until Monday after workers at other facilities hold their ratification meetings.

Stellantis was the last of the Big 3 Automakers Unifor bargained with for a collective agreement.
