Following a cancer diagnosis in June 2022, Ernie "The Baconman" Lamont is in hospice care.
Laura Moody, his first cousin, confirmed the news on Tuesday.
Lamont was a five-time candidate for the Mayor of Windsor.
His last campaign was cut short mid-campaign after his diagnosis. He dropped out to instead run for councillor in Ward 3.
Lamont, known for selling pepperettes in local bars, brought his entrepreneurial spirit to his campaigns.
He proposed bringing a privately funded amusement park to Windsor, opening a second casino, and turning Windsor Arena into a homeless shelter.
Some campaign promises seemed less realistic. Lamont once proposed catching the Canada Geese on the riverfront and butchering them for food in the city's food banks and amalgamating all seven Essex County municipalities into Windsor.
Other ideas were almost prescient like one to build 10,000 modular homes on County Road 42.
Moody feels Lamont's ideas could've found a more receptive audience.
"Ernie is the most innovative and motivated man I know," she said. "In my opinion, he should have taken his ideas to the Canadian show "The Dragon's Den."
