Windsor to host two big sporting events next spring

Windsor will be the host of two large sporting events next spring.

The 2024 Olympic Diving Trials and Summer National Championships will be held at the Windsor International Training and Aquatics Centre from May 17-19.

On June 2, 2024, Athletics Ontario will host the 2024 Johnny Loaring Track and Field Classic at Alumni Stadium at the University of Windsor.

Both events received funding through the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport.

Diving Plongeon Canada got a grant of $100,000 while Athletics Ontario received $9,000 for its event.

“It is exciting to be hosting such prestigious national and provincial sporting events here in Windsor and to have the opportunity to showcase our world-class athletic facilities to the province and the country,” said Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie.

The grants came from the Ontario Sport Hosting Program.

“This investment reaffirms Ontario’s reputation as a top destination for amateur sport events – the total number of applications that were received for the 2023-24 program year is the highest to date,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “I am proud that our government is helping Ontario athletes to gain the elite competition experience that they require to excel on the world stage while remaining close to home.”
