Caldwell First Nation hosted the region's municipal leaders and staff for a conference to promote reconciliation in action.
"I look forward to this just being the first day and further meetings after this where we can really grow as communities together," said Chief Mary Duckworth.
The conference focused truth and reconciliation through education, planning, and economic opportunities for the region.
"Everything starts with a good relationship. Even if you don't agree, we're never always going to agree, we know that, but we have to have understanding, we have to have a relationship. We have to have a mechanism where we can have a dispute about it without going to court," said Duckworth.
LaSalle Mayor Crystal Meloche said she is looking forward to building on the relationship.
"The biggest thing about today was partnership and how we can work together to move our region forward," said Meloche. "I think today's been fantastic, so far, I've learned a lot in a short period of time and I look forward to doing these things more often."
