The City of Windsor will install curling facilities at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.
Councillors made the decision Monday night after the decision to remove curling facilities from Roseland Golf and Curling Club was made at a previous council meeting.
Four city facilities were considered for the curling facilities including the Forest Glade Arena, WFCU Centre, Adie Knox Arena and the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.
The south Windsor arena was selected because it was the number one choice of curlers surveyed.
Councillor Kieran McKenzie recognized that many may not be happy with the decision but felt that it was the best option for all recreational groups.
"We can move some things around with respect to the schedule," said McKenzie. 'We are doing, I think, our utmost to ensure that we're doing it with the least amount of disruption while at the same time getting the maximum use out of the resources that we have. These are really challenging decisions, they really are."
City administration will now begin consultations with curlers to complete renovations at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex for a 5-sheet curling rink and lounge.
Council also discussed that the University of Windsor is seriously considering moving its program from the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex to the Adie Knox Arena. This would result in additional ice availability at the facility.
