Residents and visitors to Windsor-Essex have a new digital tool to experience the region's agriculture-based businesses.
Tourism Windsor-Essex Pelee Island (TWEPI) has rolled out its W.E. Heart Local Digital Passport, which gives people a chance to learn about and support Windsor-Essex's thriving agribusinesses.
"With one of the longest growing seasons in Canada, and an abundance of greenhouse fresh produce all year long, we are blessed with a diverse offering of fruits, vegetables, honey, wine, beer, and more," said TWEPI CEO Gordon Orr in a media release. "This digital pass offers users a unique journey through Windsor Essex through the adventure of taste and incentivizes them to explore more while doing so."
The digital passport points visitors to over 70 farm stands, farmers' markets, growers, producers, craft beverages, and others with local produce options. Once registered, people can take a self-guided tour of the region at their own pace and can receive gifts, including limited-edition apparel, free tasting passports on the Barrels Bottles and Brews trail, and the chance to win one of two $250 grand prizes.
The program is run in cooperation with the Essex County Federation of Agriculture and Libro Credit Union, and complete information can be found here.
The eighth annual edition of the digital passport made its debut last week during the TWEPI Staycation Expo at Devonshire Mall in Windsor.
TWEPI has also announced the return of Open Farms Days, which allow people to visit participating farms and enjoy an on-the-farm experience. This year, Open Farms Days take place on Saturday, June 10, and Saturday, September 23. Further information can be found here.
