UPDATE: Unifor announces tentative deal with Stellantis

Just seven hours after 8,200 Unifor members at Stellantis walked off the job, their union has announced a tentative deal with the automaker.

Workers on the afternoon shift should report to work on Monday.

A message from National President Lana Payne late Sunday night said, "We have made progress, and we will continue to negotiate through the night."

Unifor represents workers about 8,200 workers at the Windsor Assembly Plant, Brampton Assembly Plant, and Etobicoke Casting Plant, as well as Stellantis operations in Mississauga and Red Deer, Alberta.

The union announced the tentative deal on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"While brief, our strike action was an important act of solidarity and determination," said the latest update on autotalks.ca. "It demonstrated the strength of our union and provided your bargaining team with the means to achieve a tentative agreement that meets both the core economic demands in the union's pattern agreement and our Stellantis-specific demands."

Unifor has already ratified agreements with Ford Canada and General Motors.

Some of the deal's highlights include a nearly 20 per cent wage increase for production workers and 25 per cent more for skilled trades over the life of the contract, a reactivation of the cost of living allowance in December 2024, wage progression was reduced from eight years to four, and two additional paid holidays, Family Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Full-time workers will receive a $10,000 signing bonus, while permanent part-time workers will get $4,000.

By the end of the contract, a top-rate production assembler will make $44.52 an hour, and a journeyperson skilled trades worker will get $55.97 an hour.

Stellantis-specific details of the tentative agreement were not released. Those will shared with members before the ratification vote.

"Exact details on the date, time, and location of the ratification meetings and voting process will be shared by your local as soon as possible," continued the update.

Meanwhile, the United Auto Workers ratified an agreement with Ford over the weekend while reaching their tentative agreement with Stellantis.

That union continues its strike at General Motors facilities in the U.S.
