Ontario's Special Investigations Unit confirms it is looking into allegations of sexual assault against a Windsor Police officer.
The SIU was notified of the allegations on Sunday, which allegedly occurred between 2011 and 2023.
It's not releasing many details.
"In cases involving allegations of sexual assault, the SIU does not release details to the public which could potentially identify the individual alleging a sexual assault occurred or the officer who was the subject of the allegation," it said in an email to WindsorNewsToday.ca. "This is because the release of information related to investigations of sexual assault allegations is associated with a risk of further deterring what is already an under-reported crime and undermining the heightened privacy interests of the involved parties, most emphatically, the complainants."
The Special Investigations Unit investigates all incidents involving police that result in sexual assault, serious injury and death.
