Downtown Windsor businesses expect a big uptick in patronage when the Detroit Lions play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this weekend.
"This playoff game is more than just your run-of-the-mill sports event,” he said. “It's history in the making for our U.S. neighbour, and it’s also a catalyst for downtown and regional economic vitality," said Chris MacLeod, chair of the Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association. "We're excited to welcome visitors and fans to Downtown Windsor. This surge in economic activity will be a testament to our two-nation destination and the strong cross-border relationship between Detroit and Windsor.”
The City of Windsor is showing its support with a Detroit Lions flag flying at city hall.
"We're showing our brothers and sisters over the border that we're supporting them. There's a lot of Lions fans here, certainly, I believe just about everyone in Windsor is a Detroit Lions fan. It's a great thing, it's the first time in 30 years and we want to show our support to the city of Detroit and the Detroit Lions," said Ward 3 Councillor Renaldo Agostino.
Transit Windsor's special events bus and the Tunnel Bus will be operational this weekend to take fans to the game.
Game time is 3 p.m. at Ford Field.
