Tecumseh plans to expand public EV charging stations

The Town of Tecumseh, which already has eight public charging stations for electric vehicles, plans to add four more locations where drivers can charge up.

Town councillors approved a motion on Tuesday night to enter a ten-year agreement with Jule Power to install Level 3 charging stations at Tecumseh Town Hall, at Tecumseh Legion Hall Branch 261, at CADA Library, and the BIA parking lot.

Level 3 stations charge vehicles six times faster than the current Level 2s and at considerably less cost.

While the installations could cost $450,000 at each location, the town plans to apply for a rebate through Ontario's EV ChargeOn Program, covering as much as 75 per cent of the expense up to $1-million.

Jule Power would also pay the town a fee to locate the charging stations on municipal property.

The town already has EV charging stations at eight locations, including Town Hall, Tecumseh Arena, St. Clair Beach Community Centre, and three municipal parks.
