Donation supports peer wellness program at Trans Wellness Ontario

A Windsor-based program that provides counseling and support for those questioning their gender identity has received a big boost.

Caesars Cares, the community service arm made up of Caesars Windsor employees, has provided a $10,000 donation to Trans Wellness Ontario for its Peer Wellness Program.

Nona Abdallah, a peer support worker and group facilitator at Trans Wellness Ontario, said the program is often the only place clients can turn to for guidance, particularly if there is little or no family support.

"Unfortunately, trans individuals often find themselves lacking affirmation and support in their lives," said Abdallah. "In those cases, a peer support worker becomes the sole source of validation. This is why it is so important that our peer support program receives adequate funding."

There is an emphasis at Trans Wellness Ontario on support for transgender people and those questioning their gender identities, but the organization offers support for anyone in the LGBTQ+ community.

"Caesars Windsor is a strong supporter of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community," said Caesars Windsor Vice-President of Human Resources Kelly Gregoire. "We have diverse employees and guests and believe in providing environments where everyone can have fun and be their self."
