Despite repeated warnings from police services, the emergency scam continues to rope in victims.
The latest victims lost more than $21,000 after they received a phone call from someone posing as a law enforcement officer who demanded money to release a family member from jail.
"Grandparents and parents are frequently the focus of these scammers," said the Ontario Provincial Police. "The fabricated incidents often include car accidents, legal issues resulting in incarceration, or difficulties returning from a foreign location."
The Ontario Provincial Police said the first victim was scammed on January 25, while scammers duped a second one six days later.
Both victims live in Tecumseh. The first lost $13,000, and the second, $8,000.
In both instances, a man went to the victims' homes to collect the money.
The OPP hope someone recognizes the individual from a photo captured on a security camera.
