What's open and closed in Windsor-Essex on Family Day?

Many Ontarians will be off on Monday to celebrate the family.

With that in mind, many businesses across Windsor-Essex will be either closed or on shortened hours in observance of Family Day. Ontario is one of the provinces that observe a holiday on the third Monday in February, coinciding with President's Day in the U.S.

All provincial and municipal offices are closed on Monday. ServiceOntario offices are among them, with some transactions able to be performed online.

All four of the public school boards serving Windsor-Essex are closed on Family Day, along with St. Clair College and the University of Windsor. Except for U of W, where it is Reading Week, all classes resume on Tuesday.

All Beer Store and LCBO outlets are open normal hours on Sunday but are closed on Monday. Grocery stores that sell beer or wine may do so per provincial guidelines.

Devonshire Mall is open Monday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., featuring its annual Family Day program. Tecumseh Mall is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Windsor Crossing outlet mall in LaSalle is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Some big-box stores and chain restaurants are closed or on restricted hours Monday. Call ahead to avoid a wasted trip.

At the Windsor Public Library, the Central, Budimir, and Riverside branches are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All other branches are closed on Monday. The entire library system is open with normal hours on Tuesday.

All Essex County Library branches are closed Family Day.

The 311 call centre is closed but will be open Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Access to information about City of Windsor services is available on the 311 app.

The 211 service line will be open 24 hours as usual Monday.

Residential garbage and recyclable collection in Windsor will not take place on Family Day, meaning a one-day delay. Commercial garbage collection usually scheduled for Monday will take place as normal. Refer to your waste collection calendar for details.

The public drop-off depot on Central Ave and E.C. Row is closed on Family Day. Regular hours resume Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Most community and customer care centres, and arenas in the City of Windsor, are closed Monday, except for previously scheduled rentals.

The indoor pool at the Marcus Community Complex will be open from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday for a free Mat-tacular Minis drop-in event. The indoor pool at the WFCU Centre will hold a free public swim from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre's pool and fitness centre will be open Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Adventure Day Family Water Park will be open Family Day from 12 noon to 4 p.m.

Free public skating will be held at Lanspeary Park on Monday from 2:30 to 5 p.m., with Parent and Tot skating from 5 to 6 p.m.

The Homelessness and Housing Help (H4) Hub at Windsor Water World will be open from 8 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. for single men and women experiencing homelessness.

There is no parking enforcement in Windsor on Sunday or Monday. Metered street spaces are free but parking garages are open and paid as usual. The city’s parking payment offices are closed, but payments will still be taken online.

Transit Windsor buses will run on Sunday-holiday schedules. Transit Windsor’s customer service office downtown, and the sales office on North Service Road East, will be closed.

The Francois Baby House and the Chimczuk Museum in Windsor are closed Monday, their usual days off.
