Downtown Mission close to its Coldest Night of the Year goal

The Downtown Mission has one month left to reach its $100,000 goal for its Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser.

"Saturday we were at almost 92 per cent of our goal to raise funds to help the services at the Downtown Mission continue all year round, as of [Tuesday] we're at about 95 per cent," said Executive Director Rukshini Ponniah-Goulin.

During the event Saturday night, 250 gathered to walk throughout downtown Windsor. Another 100 walked in other areas of Essex County to support the mission.

"It was so great this year to see, I would say upwards of 250 were here downtown walking together but also just coming together to show their support and that they value the work of the mission," said Ponniah-Goulin.

All of the services at the Downtown Mission, including the food bank and the Windsor Youth Centre, rely almost entirely on fundraising.

To help the Downtown Mission reach its goal, donations will still be accepted until March 31 at cnoy.org/windsordowntown.
