Annual Polar Plunge surpasses fundraising goal

Law enforcement and ordinary folks from across Windsor-Essex jumped into frigid water for a good cause Thursday night.

The Windsor-Essex Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Ontario drew hundreds of brave jumpers and their supporters to the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre.

According to the event's official website, this year's Polar Plunge broke its fundraising goal of $70,000. As of Friday evening, the event raised $72,111 for Special Olympics Ontario.

Members of Windsor police, LaSalle police, Ontario Provincial Police, their auxiliary officers, and other first responders were on hand to jump into the water. St. Clair College once again partnered with law enforcement for the event.

The college offered an incentive for high school students to participate, a $500 bursary. Grade 11 and 12 students who participated in the plunge in person Thursday night should email the details via the Plunge website.
