Municipal lands available for housing development

The City of Windsor has identified four pieces of municipally owned property to be sold for residential development.

The properties identified for development include the former W.D. Lowe Secondary school, the Caron Avenue parking lot, the Pelissier Street parking lot and the Roseland clubhouse and parking lot.

The city plans to develop an expression of interest for each individual property to attract proposals for developments of all types of housing including affordable housing and the missing middle.

"Some in the development community have already reached out to express an interest so I would expect we're going to see a number of submissions and we look forward as a city council going through and reviewing those submissions and ultimately realizing hundreds of new units built in the City of Windsor," said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens.

The first proposal to be issued will be for Roseland Clubhouse and parking lot. The plan includes demolishing the current clubhouse and curling rink and offering the land to a developer for the construction of a condominium. A new clubhouse would also be built on the site.

"We want a really high-end development at Roseland. Something that will be incredible with underground parking and some great views of the golf course. I think it's a place where many in Windsor would desire to live," said Dilkens.

The city is hosting a public information session on Thursday, March 7 to share conceptual drawings and get public feedback before issuing the expression of interest proposal.
