Delivery driver charged with weekend stunt driving

Ontario Provincial Police have cited a driver for going 60 km/h over the speed limit over the weekend.

An OPP patrol officer was on Highway 3 in Essex when they spotted a vehicle going 140 km/h in an 80 zone.

The 23-year-old driver, who was doing deliveries, was stopped and ticketed for stunt driving.

Under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, the driver's licence is suspended for 30 days, and their vehicle is impounded for 14 days.

The Act defines stunt driving, in this case, as "driving a motor vehicle at a rate of speed that is 50 kilometres per hour or more over the speed limit if the speed limit is 80 kilometres per hour or more."

If convicted, penalties may include up to six demerit points, additional licence suspension, fines, and mandatory driver improvement training.
