The City of Windsor is offering refunds to some dog owners who purchased dog licenses for 2024.
While dog licenses are still mandatory, the annual fee is no longer required for dog owners who have microchipped and either spayed or neutered their pets.
The move was made during the 2024 budget deliberations and fulfils a promise made by Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens during his 2022 re-election campaign.
To get a reimbursement, owners must provide the city's licensing division with proof of microchipping, the place of dog license purchase, the dog owner's name and address, and the dog's name.
The information can be provided by mail, email or in person.
New dog owners can apply online for a free license after they have microchipped and either spayed or neutered their pet.
