Waterfront bicycle path coming to Leamington

The Municipality of Leamington has moved to the next phase of its waterfront master plan.

To help enhance the experience of visiting the promenade, work will soon begin on a dedicated bicycle path between the dock and the marina.

Mayor Hilda MacDonald said the bike path will help improve the quality of the waterfront.

"Introducing a new dedicated bike path along our promenade significantly boosts both safety and accessibility while also elevating the experience for everyone who visits," said MacDonald. "I am happy to see this project come to life, as it represents another step toward realizing our vision for a vibrant, accessible waterfront that everyone can enjoy."

Safety has also been a consideration for a new bike path. Despite a restriction keeping the promenade for pedestrian use only, people continue to use it for bicycles.

The Municipality has begun facilitating the project by removing the "tips" of some of the promenade's gardens, which should be completed within a few weeks. Most of the gardens will be left as they are.

The bike path is expected to be finished by early summer.
