WRH to increase parking rates starting April 1

It will soon cost a little more to park at Windsor Regional Hospital.

The hospital has announced it will increase parking rates at both the Ouellette and Metropolitan campuses, effective April 1.

New visitor parking rates will go from $3 to $3.50 per hour, and from $1 to $1.25 for each additional hour.

Daily maximum rates will also rise from $7 to $8.

For a set of ten coupons at the Ouellette campus, or tokens at Met, the price will rise from $30 to $34.50.

Hospital President and CEO David Musyj said the rates remain below the provincial cap, and he understood that parking availability has been a long-term problem.

"We always want to ensure that our parking prices are set at a cost that’s fair to patients, visitors, and staff while at the same time helps us offset some rising costs associated with maintaining the parking lots," said Musyj.

Parking rates for the cancer centre and emergency department will remain unchanged.

"We know and appreciate the way that immediate family members provide an important role in supporting patient care, which is why reduced parking rates are available to those individuals through discounted monthly parking passes that have long been available to families of loved ones are in hospital or patients who need to visit on a frequent basis," said Musyj."

Despite the cost of maintaining the lots rising, WRH has not raised parking rates since 2011.
