The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) has reported more progress in getting suspended K-8 students back into the classroom.
By Wednesday morning, the health unit reported 61 elementary students across the region still had not obtained the required immunizations, updated incomplete records, or provided a valid exemption.
An updated immunization record is required. Under Ontario law, the student risks suspension for up to 20 school days.
In the last WECHU update on Thursday, 102 students were on suspension.
The health unit has again stressed that it is there to help.
"Parents with students remaining on the suspension list can speak to a public health nurse directly by calling the WECHU at (519) 258-2146, ext. 1222," read the notice from the health unit. "Public health nurses can answer questions and help you to get your child’s immunization record up to date."
Parents and guardians can enter their information and proof online or have their primary health care provider fax it to the health unit or hand-deliver them to the Windsor or Leamington offices.
The health unit has additional information on record submissions and walk-in immunization clinics on its official WECHU website.
