GHIB construction marks 2,000 days

The Gordie Howe International Bridge has been under construction for over 2,000 days.

The Windsor Detroit Bridge Authority marked the occasion on March 27, 2024.

“The great progress across all components of the Gordie Howe International Bridge project is the direct result of the collaboration between our partners, contractors, craft workers and so many others who have come together to make this vision a reality. I applaud the trades for their tireless efforts and determination in building a once-in-a-generation landmark and their commitment to safety and quality,” said Charl van Niekerk, Chief Executive Officer, Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority

During the 2,000 days of construction, the bridge towers have reached their final height of 220 metres or 722 feet.

The bridge deck is nearing completion with only 10 segments of 56 left to be installed. The two sides are expected to meet this summer.

At the Canadian and US Ports of Entry, paving of lanes, parking lots and roadways is ongoing while painting and floor installation has started inside 10 of 12 buildings.

Construction was originally scheduled to end in November of 2024 but the deadline has been extended to September 2025.
