Six local artists and supporters were recognized during the 2024 Lakeshore Mayor's Arts ceremony Saturday.
It celebrated recognized artistic talent and honoured those who have contributed to the arts in the community.
"These awards don't just celebrate these talented individuals and organizations, but also reaffirm our commitment to fostering the arts in Lakeshore's communities," said Mayor Tracey Bailey. The arts are an investment in the life and energy of public spaces, parks, and the places we gather."
Two artists under the age of 21 were recognized with Student Artist Award for outstanding promise and commitment to the arts.
Painter Kristen Alexander and dancer Hailey Cassidy were the recipients of the award.
The Emerging Artist Award was given to Justin Jewell. He is a frequent performer in Lakeshore and Windsor-Essex.
Meanwhile, Stephanie Kriza was the recipient of the Creative Entrepreneur Award. This award is given to a business, organization or individual with a demonstrated impact on the Lakeshore's art community.
In 2013 Kriza started teaching art classes in her home studio and now runs a painting party throughout Essex County.
The Artistic Excellence Award was given to Christian Vegh, which is given to an artist who has demonstrated artistic excellence in their field through a body of work, public work or exhibitions.
Lastly, Laurie D'Alessandro was given the Patron of the Arts Award. This is given to volunteers, educators, supporters or businesses that volunteer or supports the arts in Lakeshore.
Each award had a $1,000 cash prize, except for the Patron of the Arts Award, which provided a $1,000 donation to a charity or non-profit organization of their choice.
