Windsor to host Olympic diving trials and Summer National Championships

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens said history will be made in the city when it hosts the Canadian Diving Trials and Summer National Championship.

It's the first time Windsor has hosted an Olympic trial in any sport, and Dilkens calls it "a monumental chapter for Windsor's sporting community and a proud splash for our local diving club."

Close to 50 Canadian divers will compete for national titles and the honour of representing Canada at the upcoming Paris 2024 Summer Games during the event, which runs from May 17 to May 19.

Divers will compete in the Men's 10-metre, Women's 3-metre and Women's 10-metre.

"It's a point of pride for us to welcome divers from all over the country who will be working to earn a place at the Paris 2024 Games," said Dilkens. "It also allows us to once again showcase the incredible Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre -- and build upon efforts to position Windsor as a dynamic city that places a premium on sport and development."

Head coach of the Windsor Diving Club Ioana Mariescu agrees.

"To be hosting this national event at our pool, with such talented athletes, is a tremendous achievement for our club. It is a testament to the hard work and passion that fuels our team," she said. "And this is just the beginning. We have only scratched the surface of what we aim to accomplish."

On the first day of the competition, Friday, May 17, admission is free. There are four preliminary qualifying events in Men's and Women's 1-metre and 3-metre diving.

Tickets can be purchased online on Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19.
