Windsor Police launch campaign cracking down on excessive noise

If you like to drive with the music turned way up, enjoy the sound of a loud muffler, or otherwise create excessive noise, Windsor Police officers will be there to enforce municipal noise bylaws.

Police launched their anti-noise campaign on Wednesday by clamping down on drivers who crank the tunes, squeal their tires, and rev their engines.

"Officers will enforce existing Windsor and Amherstburg bylaws regarding sound emissions. They can also lay similar charges under the Highway Traffic Act 'unnecessary noise' regulation," said a tweet from the Windsor Police Service.

During last year's campaign, officers issued 2,865 citations for speeding, 77 for stunt driving, and 58 for other noise-related infractions.

The campaign starts on May 1 and wraps up on September 2.

"Excessive vehicular noise can distract other motorists and disturb nearby residents and pedestrians," said Inspector Jennifer Crosby. She oversees the Windsor Police Traffic Enforcement Unit. "Through this campaign, we want to encourage drivers to be safer and more considerate of others."

Residents can file a noise complaint using the Windsor Police Service's online reporting system or call the non-emergency line at 519-258-6111.

Remember, 911 is only for emergencies.
