The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is getting more money from the province to support programming and services.
Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie announced $1,897,600 more on Thursday morning.
The health unit will see its base funding increase by $359,125 this fiscal year and $1,077,375 in the 2024-25 funding year. It will also get a one-time grant of $461,100 this year.
"This follows our government's commitment to funding a 75 per cent share of provincial public health services at WECHU on par with its peers across the province," said Dowie.
The health unit had to make tough decisions during its budget process last December.
It said provincial funding had not kept up with inflation and announced a ten per cent cut in its workforce.
The money announced on Thursday is part of the Ontario government's $91.7-million investment in additional base and one-time funding for public health units this fiscal year and next.
