Run for Windsor organizers declare victory after run raises $30K

A charity run to raise money for Windsor Regional Hospital earlier this month managed to raise over $30,000.

About 500 people ran or walked in the Run for Windsor at Malden Park on May 18.

The run, organized by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association of Windsor, was the fourth annual event.

It also drew the attendance of several local politicians, including Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens, Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie, and Windsor-Tecumseh MP Irek Kusmierczyk. First responders from Windsor Police Service, Windsor Fire and Rescue Services, and Essex Windsor EMS participated.

Ward 7 councillor Angelo Marignani honoured organizers for celebrating diversity and giving back to the community. He said the run fostered unity and hope.

More than 175 runners ran the timed 5K course, while the remainder walked 1.5 km.
