The family of an international student who died in Windsor last week is hoping to bring him home to India.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family of Rohit Dheer, who was one of two people who drowned Thursday evening off Sandpoint Beach.
"We are devastated by this loss and wish to send Dheer's body back to India to be with his parents," read a message from Davinder Dhir, a first cousin, on the page. "Any support to help cover the funeral and transportation costs would be deeply appreciated."
Windsor police say the pair went missing while swimming at the beach, and their bodies were recovered Friday night.
The search was undertaken by the Windsor police's marine unit, Windsor Fire and Rescue, Essex-Windsor EMS, and the Canadian and U.S. Coast Guards.
The fundraising page has a goal of $25,000, intending to repatriate Dheer's remains to India. As of Tuesday afternoon, over $6,700 had been raised.
