Public session scheduled on changes in Windsor stormwater costs

The City of Windsor has scheduled an information session for this week, to discuss changes in how stormwater costs will be calculated.

Effective January 2025, the City will base the stormwater fee on the amount of hard surfaces on your property. Under the current sewer surcharge, funding is provided for both stormwater and wastewater services.

Under the change, wastewater fees will continue under the current calculation system, which is individual water usage.

"In 2021, City Council approved the Stormwater Financing Study recommendation to separate the sewer surcharge into two fees, wastewater and stormwater," read a release from the City. "This will improve the management and maintenance of our stormwater system to prevent flooding of homes, businesses, schools, and roads; and reduce pollutants from entering our waterways."

A public information session is on Wednesday at the WFCU Centre's Great Lakes Room. Topics will include the City's stormwater system, recommendations from the financing study, charges for residential and business properties, and fee reduction through the credit program.

The session runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Representatives from the City will be available to answer questions.

Complete information on the City's stormwater financing system can be found on its official website.
