Attendance down at otherwise successful LaSalle Strawberry Festival

Attendance at this year's LaSalle Strawberry Festival was down from the past two years, but organizers still say it was a big success.

The annual event at the Vollmer Culture and Recreation Complex attracted 28,500 people between June 6 and June 9.

"Each year, I look forward to the LaSalle Strawberry Festival, and I take great pride in the longstanding tradition it represents within our community," said Mayor Crystal Meloche.

The festival celebrated its 36th year, and it was the fourth year at the Vollmer Complex.

Last year, 31,997 people attended, but attendance in 2022 broke a record when 33,250 came out.

"The organization and cooperation between departments gets better and better every year. Many of us don't get to see the many months of behind-the-scenes work in preparation for the event, along with what it takes to execute an event for close to 30,000 people," said Director of Culture and Recreation Patti Funaro. "It's amazing what our collective team accomplished while making it look easy."

A post-event report will go to LaSalle Town Council in the coming weeks.

Revenue raised at the LaSalle Strawberry Festival will offset the town's costs. Any money left over will support it in the future.
