WECHU ends extended heat warning as temperatures ease

A week after issuing an extended heat warning for the region, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit has ended it.

The warning from the health unit followed a similar advisory from Environment Canada on June 17.

The health unit issues an extended heat warning whenever the forecast calls for three or more consecutive days where daytime temperatures reach at least 31 C, the humidex reaches 42 C, or night-time lows exceed 21 C.

Environment Canada now predicts daytime highs to return to more normal temperatures, below the threshold used by the health unit.

Monday's high should peak at 29 C with a humidex value of 32 C.

On Tuesday, the region can expect a high of 31 C with a humidex of 39 C.
