The West Nile Virus has been detected in a mosquito pool in Windsor and Essex County.
Each year, the Windsor Essex County Health Unit tests mosquito pools throughout the community for the potentially serious virus.
There have been no human cases detected so far this season.
“Windsor and Essex County residents should continue to protect themselves against mosquitoes. This is an important reminder for everyone to remove standing water around our homes and workplaces to prevent mosquito breeding and protect ourselves and our families from mosquito bites,” said Dr. Aloosh, Medical Officer of Health, Windsor-Essex County Health Unit.
To avoid mosquito bites, the health unit recommends wearing light-coloured long-sleeved shirts and pants when outdoors and limit time spent outdoors at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active.
