A train service that connects Chicago to Toronto is still in the works.
VIA Rail CEO Mario Peloquin confirmed talks are still underway with Amtrak and the Canadian and US governments to establish the service.
"It is happening, there's a plan, there's funding, it is moving forward. It takes a little bit of time because there's some work to do to make Windsor station a border station," said Peloquin.
He estimates the service could be up and running in the next one to two years.
"We're working with two different national governments as well as municipalities on both sides, railways and Amtrak and VIA so it does take a little bit of time to align everything," said Peloquin.
