For those of you wanting to visit the beach this Labour Day weekend, some in Windsor-Essex have reported higher-than-normal E.coli counts.
Following weekly water testing by the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, the bacteria count in the samples taken from Holiday Beach in Amherstburg showed a concentration of 1,000, too high for safe swimming. With that, Holiday Beach is closed.
Three other beaches in the region, Lakeview Park West in Belle River, Seacliff in Leamington, and Point Pelee North West in Leamington, reported elevated E.coli counts. Those beaches are open, but swimming is discouraged.
The other four public beaches in the region, Cedar, Cedar Island, Colchester, and Sandpoint, all had E.coli counts between 50 and 155, and are safe for swimming.
The health unit tests the water at each public beach on Wednesdays during warm weather months.
