Inaugural Show Us Your Brave fundraiser raises $325,000

Donations are still coming in, but the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation's Show Us Your Brave campaign has already raised over $325,000.

It was hoped the inaugural fundraiser would raise $300,000.

The campaign raises money to support cancer care in the Windsor-Essex area. Funds will help implement programs like the stem cell transplant program, breast reconstruction, and other initiatives supporting patient physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

One of the ways residents could support fundraising was by rappelling 51 metres or 170 ft. down the CIBC Building in downtown Windsor. Ninety people braved the height on June 22nd.

"The hardest part of treatment in London was being separated from family and loved ones," said Pamela Gebrayel, a local cancer survivor and one of four ambassadors for the inaugural fundraiser. "There's nothing like being home and in your own bed and your own space when you don't feel well."

This year's other ambassadors were Mark Pastorious, Heather Chauvin, and Shannon Kadar.

Chief of Oncology at the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre, Doctor Sindu Kanjeekal, knows firsthand the impact of improving local cancer care.

"This is a huge step forward for our community and is only possible because of our successful recruitment of new oncologists and funds raised locally to purchase all the specialized equipment we need."

Show Us Your Brave return next spring is already in the works, with "Brave Day" scheduled for June 2025.
