The heat is on in Windsor-Essex

Windsor-Essex residents will feel the heat for at least Wednesday and Thursday.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Windsor-Essex as a hot and humid airmass settles over the region.

The forecast for Wednesday and Thursday calls for temperature highs between 30 C and 32 C. Humidex readings may flirt with the 40 C mark. Evening lows may only reach the lower 20s, providing little relief.

"Extreme heat can affect everyone’s health," read the warning from Environment Canada. "The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues."

A cooler air mass will move in Thursday night or Friday morning.

The weather agency urges people to drink plenty of water and water-based beverages to stay hydrated, even if they do not feel thirsty. Also, pets and people, particularly children, should never be left in a hot, parked vehicle.
