SIU discontinues investigation into man's injury

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has ended an investigation into the injury to a 37-year-old man's hand while he was in Windsor police custody.

According to the SIU, the man was arrested on April 26 on domestic violence charges and held in police custody. While in a cell, the man was told by officers of additional charges he would be facing causing him to punch the cell door and fracture his left hand.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment.

Surveillance footage and an interview with the man confirmed the investigators' findings, resulting in a closure of the case.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault, and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
