One injured, one arrested following downtown robbery

Windsor police have arrested a 39-year-old woman following a robbery in downtown Windsor.

According to police, officers were called to Ouellette Avenue, near University Avenue West, shortly after 2 a.m. on Wednesday for a report of an assault.

Police said that when they arrived they found a cab driver with injuries to his forearm, head, and face.

Investigators determined that the female suspect had solicited a ride from the man and shortly after getting into the cab, the two got into an argument. When the fight escalated, the woman reportedly assaulted the driver, damaged the vehicle, stole the vehicle's surveillance equipment and keys, and fled the scene.

The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident.

The suspect was arrested a short distance away. During the arrest, the suspect actively resisted and subsequently assaulted an officer, police said.

The woman is facing charges of robbery, mischief, resisting a peace officer, and assaulting a peace officer.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Major Crime Unit at 519-255-6700, ext. 4830 and Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477 (TIPS).
