Dr. Fouad Tayfour and Dr. Barry Emara made another major donation to ophthalmology in the region.
This year, the doctors donated $130,000 toward the Tayfour-Emara Excellence in Research & Education Fund” and $100,000 towards general, ophthalmology equipment.
"The partnership with Windsor Regional Hospital continues to have a positive impact on the community we serve,” said Dr. Tayfour. “Within a short period of time we have decreased cataract wait times, recruited more Ophthalmologists to Windsor and allowed for other elective procedures to be completed in the hospital.”
This is the third year the surgeons have made major donations to the community. In 2022, the Tayfour-Emara Excellence in Research & Education Fund was established with a $250,000 donation. Last year, they donated another $330,000.
“Supporting this important research fund demonstrates how this new partnership model can have lasting benefits for the community,” said Dr. Emara. "Through this model, we are also looking at ways we can continue to improve the patient experience in ophthalmology as well as in other surgical specialities.”
Windsor Regional Hospital officials are hopeful the investment in research will help to attract new talent to the region.
“This helps with recruiting and attracting the next generation of healthcare researchers and providers to the region,” said Karen Riddell, Acting President & CEO, Windsor Regional Hospital.
