Human trafficking suspects arrested for violating bail

Two suspects facing human trafficking charges were arrested by Windsor police this week for violating their bail conditions.

The two individuals were among five people arrested and charged by the York Regional Police in 2023 during an operation called Project Norte. The suspects allegedly enticed Mexican nationals to come to Canada for a better life and exploited them for labour once they arrived. There were 64 Mexican nationals rescued as part of the operation.

This year, Windsor police received a tip that two of the suspects were in the region and violating their release conditions.

On Thursday, the Offender Management Unit along with the York Regional Police Human Trafficking Team and the Provincial Human Trafficking Intelligence-Led Joint Forces Strategy (IJFS), located and arrested the suspects at homes in Windsor and Belle River.

They have been charged with several counts of failure to comply with a release order.
