Wastewater release set to begin Thursday in Stoney Point

Residents of an area of Lakeshore may start to experience a foul odour in the air starting on Thursday.

The Municipality says, though, that there's nothing wrong.

A routine release of treated wastewater will begin on Thursday at the Stoney Point Sewage Treatment Facility, which is located near the Tremblay Beach Conservation Area.

The procedure is expected to last about two weeks, including weekends, according to a release from the Municipality.

"The water will be tested prior to and during release to ensure it meets standards set by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP)," read the release. "The water is discharged through a series of local drains, ultimately into Lake St. Clair."

An odour of sewage may be present in the area during the discharge.

The facility is owned by the Municipality, but operated by the Ontario Clean Water Agency under provincial government regulations.
