The City of Windsor is on track to meet provincial housing targets for 2024.
As of August 14, the city has initiated 924 housing starts or 85 per cent of the province's target of 1,083 for the year.
Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens indicated the city has been able to reach those targets because of their focus on streamlining and modernizing the development processes.
"Our goal is to get a building permit in and out within six months and our goal is also to remove friction in our own system," said Dilkens.
According to the latest data, the city has issued permits and planning approvals for an additional 2,582 residential units.
Piroli Group Developments' Viridian Place in Forest Glade is one of those developments. The 136-unit apartment complex is on track for completion in fall of 2025.
Owner Rob Piroli said through working with the city they had all necessary permits in place in under six months.
"The City of Windsor really listened to what our needs were and I can tell you specifically with the planning department, building department, and legal department they have been phenomenal to work with," said Piroli.
With 85 per cent of the Building Faster Fund targets met the city is in line to receive $2.9 million from the provincial government. If the full target is met the city could receive $3.4 million.
