Alleged ringleader of international stolen vehicle ring faces new charges

Windsor Police arrested the alleged ringleader of an international stolen vehicle operation for violating his bail conditions on Tuesday.

Police arrested 23 people in a multi-million dollar auto theft ring back in July.

Sayasith Phothitay faces 46 charges, including motor vehicle theft, drug trafficking, conspiracy to commit fraud, and conspiracy to traffic property obtained by crime.

The joint investigation led to the seizure of 138 vehicles, $170,000 in Canadian and American currency, and drugs worth $500,000.

A judge granted him bail so long as he adhered to a strict curfew. The Offender Management Unit was monitoring him when it found out he had violated his bail conditions.

On Tuesday, Windsor Police bail compliance officers and the OPP-led Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Squad arrested him at a home on Meridian Street in the city's south end.
