Since the City of Windsor and the Windsor Police Service declared intimate partner violence an epidemic, police are releasing more information about suspects facing domestic abuse charges.
Similarly, since Windsor and LaSalle Police Services formed the Offender Management Unit, law enforcement is more public about how it monitors suspects released on bail who are at risk of reoffending.
On Thursday morning, police reported a 27-year-old man, charged a month ago with assault, assault with choking, and uttering threats, now faces counts of failing to comply with a release order and escaping unlawful custody.
Officers from the Offender Management Unit were watching the suspect and believed he violated his release order, so they went to arrest the man on Tuesday.
The man tried to flee custody but officers arrested him after a short foot chase.
He's in custody now until another bail hearing.
Police won't release his name because doing so could identify the victim.
More than 100 Ontario municipalities have also declared intimate partner violence an epidemic.
