The latest phase of the Prince Road Storm Sewer Project gets underway next month.
The $7.8 million project will extend the Prince Road trunk westerly along Chappell Avenue crossing Essex Terminal Railway and continuing to a new outlet chamber and pumping station at McKee Creek.
The improvements will improve sewer capacity for around 3,500 businesses and residents in the area.
"This culminates over four decades of work that's been done on this. We're talking about over $25 million of investment in this critical trunk sewer, this is not small infrastructure these are massive pipes," said City Engineer David Simpson. "These are sized for mature state oversized sewers that will definitely be able to handle some of the intense major storm events. It's very that this is going to augment the storm resiliency in the area."
This phase of the project will be completed by November 2025.
This is one of many projects identified in the 2020 Sewer and Coastal Flood Protection master Plan. In 2024, the City will spend $61.4 million on sewer and storm water upgrades.
