Windsor driver arrested after Amulree hit-and-run

A Windsor driver faces charges after a hit-and-run crash and narrowly missing construction workers on a bridge under construction.

Police arrested the 20-year-old man in Woodstock on Wednesday afternoon.

Police in Woodstock say the vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run in Amulree.

The driver fled the scene and drove on to Woodstock on Vansittart Avenue, but the bridge is under construction.

The vehicle continued over the bridge, driving on the sidewalk where construction crews worked.

Police stopped the vehicle on Givens Street and arrested the driver.

While inspecting the vehicle, police found significant mechanical and safety issues.

The bumper of the car in the Amulree crash was also stuck in the vehicle's passenger door.

The suspect is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, having defective brakes, and unsafe operation of a motor vehicle.
