The 10th annual Grow On Windsor campaign received a $1.6 million head start thanks to generous individuals, organizations, and businesses.
The Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation launched the campaign with a $2.7 million goal to raise funds to purchase a new DaVinci Surgical Robot.
"This is a huge injection of funds to that campaign but we are still fundraising," said Houida Kassem, executive director of the foundation. "There's always a need. The cancer program comes to us annually and the needs seems to grow and grow."
The DaVinci Xi allows surgeons to operate with greater vision, range of motion, precision, and stability.
"The DaVinci that we did fund a decade ago is no longer functioning so we need another one," said Kassem. "The DaVinci is critical to care for not only prostate but also kidney patients as well."
During the month of November, residents are encouraged to grow a beard to raise awareness and funds for local cancer care. Full details on team fundraising opportunities and community partnerships can be found online here.
The initial donations came from CIBC Bank, the Polonia Club, the Toldo Foundation, the Schwab family, and the Zekleman family.
