The Windsor Essex County Health Unit partnered with the City of Windsor and the Windsor Police Service to initiate new neighbourhood safety plans.
The Substance Supports in Neighbourhoods Accessed through Police Partnerships, SSNAPP, focuses on five key neighbourhoods: downtown, South Central, Walkerville, South Walkerville, and East Windsor.
The neighbourhood safety plans will be tailored to each neighbourhood and will focus on how community members can handle situations like mental health crises, overdoses or harassment.
“The launch of these safety plans is helpful for our community residents,” said Windsor Police Chief Jason Bellaire. “The available resources advise residents on what to do and who to call in specific circumstances, allowing everyone the opportunity to support healthy communities.”
The SSNAPP project is funded by a three-year Community Safety and Policing Grant.
“These plans align with our public health priorities of promoting safe, healthy, and informed communities by providing tools to support those struggling with substance use or their mental health,” said Dr Ken Blanchette, Chief Executive Officer of the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit. “By providing resources that support the needs of our residents, we are working together to build stronger, more resilient neighbourhoods that support better health for all.”
